Manufacturer wording: Valvoline PI sheet: "formulated to meet or exceed": ASTM D3306, ASTM D4985, Chrysler MS 7170, Cummins 90T8-4, Detroit Diesel 7SE298, Federal Spec A-A-870A, Ford ESE-M97B44-A, GM 1825M, GM 1899M, SAE J1034, J1941, J814C, TMC of ATA RP-302B. The sheet adds: "other than where we have formal approvals, vehicle manufacturers have neither evaluated nor approved MaxLife/Multi-Vehicle.

"Meets X per manufacturer" is our shorthand for any of the manufacturer's own phrases: meets, meets or exceeds, approved, or recommended for applications requiring. It is the manufacturer's claim, not an approval by Coolant.com or by the vehicle maker. Codes are copied as published. Some sources list codes for compatibility rather than formal approval. The wording above shows which.

Compatibility notes

  • If your owner's manual calls for ESE-M97B44-A, Valvoline lists that code for this product. Read the exact wording above, and confirm against your manual.
  • Colour is listed as Yellow. Colour is a dye, not a spec, so two coolants of the same colour can be different chemistries. See coolant colours explained.
  • Sold premixed: pour as supplied. Do not add water unless the label says to.

Note: Valvoline PI sheet (2019) hosted by a distributor. Universal/multi-vehicle coolant with "Alugard Plus" additive; Valvoline does not name the inhibitor chemistry.

Always check your owner's manual first. Use the coolant spec printed in your owner's manual or service information. A listing here is the manufacturer's own claim (meets, exceeds, approved or recommended, worded as they put it). It is not our approval and not a fitment guarantee for your vehicle. If in doubt, ask your dealer or a qualified mechanic.
